Dear Megan, I canā€™t thank you enough for your website and advice to all women in all different stages of their relationship with a commercial fisherman. I have never dated a commercial fisherman and am a successful and independent woman. I recently met a man who is 14 years younger than me, and he and I were instantly taken with one another. And then he was off to go chase tuna, but not after making quite a huge impact on me, and I on him. I now feel so much more ready to begin this relationship with a better understanding of how to cope with my needs for companionship and intimacy. I now know how to approach this relationship without feeling the pain of loneliness that is too intense to move this relationship forward. I know how to support him and allow him to support me. And I know how to allow this relationship to move in stages that are healthy. Thank you so very much. I will no doubt visit your site often and contribute as I can. My best wishes.

The other day I googled ‘gifts to get commercial fishermen’ out of pure curiosity. I was running out of creativity for my gifts to my boyfriend and family members. I wasn’t expecting to find anything in particular, but luckily I found your blog, and I absolutely love it! I’ve been sharing it with my friends and family that are also in relationships with commercial fishermen. I think your blogs are lovely and too accurate! You took exactly what I’ve been thinking and put it into words. I’m excited to see what you write next, and I will continue to share it with others.

I’m so so happy I found your blog. I’m from Canada, and I only started dating a commercial fisherman/diver at the end of July, knowing full well that he would be gone 4 months, Sep-Jan. Again, I’m so incredibly happy I found you and this blog because I feel this is so different from so many other LDR’s (long distant relationships).

Iā€™m the first year of dating a commercial fisherman. I had no idea what this lifestyle was about. Iā€™ve had some ā€œWhat the hell am I doing? This is not normalā€ moments. But reading Meganā€™s blog and stories has given me so much perspective! Thank you for sharing!

Iā€™m really excited to see that thereā€™s a whole community of us out there; it makes me feel better that Iā€™m not alone in this.Ā

I have reached a new level of missing my guy.Ā  For the last month, we were able to keep in touch by phone/texting.Ā  Yesterday the boat left for the grounds, and we are now out of touch for at least a month. Unless you’ve been in a relationship with a fisherman, you really don’t understand what it’s like. It’s a challenge. Thanks for the group ā€“ we are small in numbers, but I know that each of you gets it, which helps.

Woooo! Finally, a place where everyone understands! Iā€™m about to be living the single dog-mom life, so the more virtual friends I can collect, the better. Thanks, Megan!Ā

Hi Megan. This is Jenny, Seanā€™s mom, and Briā€™s mom-in-law. I just read your interview with Cydney Ferris. It was awesome. Iā€™m crying a little bit as that was my life as my kids were growing up, and Seanā€™s dad Pat was gone. When Pat and I first started our business, I spent three years on the boat with him. Our daughter Brenna went too. She was 6 months old when she took her first boat ride and spent 6 months on the boat! When Sean was born, I stayed home with the kids, and Pat was gone for 6 months at a time. Luckily we all survived! The bottom line is, itā€™s love that gets you through. Iā€™ve started following you, and I will look forward to your stories. Stay safe and take care.Ā

I just binge-read a boatload of your blog posts; I found you through Bri’s (Dwyer) page. I just wanted to let you know I love your blog, and I’m glad I found it. My husband became a commercial fisherman just 6 months ago, but man has our life changed dramatically in that time!!! He is out of Point Judith, RI šŸ˜ŠĀ

I read your blog this morning about addiction in commercial fishing. Needless to say, I didnā€™t make it very far in before I started to cry hits close to home, thatā€™s for sure.Ā

I stumbled upon ur blog post when frantically Googling, trying to find other commercial fisherman spouses! Missing him comes in waves, and Iā€™m struggling today! Even just reading ur blog and realizing someone out there has experienced the same is so comforting. ā¤ļøĀ

Love your blog and posts!! I am the girlfriend of a long haul truck driver, moving contractor, and deal with months of not seeing him…although we arenā€™t in the same industry, I can relate and feel a kinship with you girls. ā¤ļøĀ  More of my life is spent without him than with him, so I get it. I have to be home to raise the babies and run the house. Thank you for your good vibes and encouragement. Your vibrant colors and darling home help too! It helps on the tough days šŸ˜Š

Good morning Megan! I’m not entirely sure how I found your account, but I’m so glad I did.Ā  I love finding other great people here who share a love of words, sweet bookstores, creativity, and being outdoors. That book shop looks dreamy outside. I wouldn’t want to leave. Also, I enjoy reading your blog. I grew up in Maine, and my uncle was a lobsterman. When I was little, he showed me how to make bait nets and help repair traps. I loved all the time I ever spent with him. There is something so special about a lobster boat. šŸ˜‰Ā Ā
